SanD students attend CERN Philippines School 2014

CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, held the first CERN Philippines School at the National Institute of Physics, University of the Philippines Diliman from 31 March to 8 April 2014. The event was organized by Caesar Palisoc of NIP and André David of CERN.

Visiting guest speakers include Albert de Roeck who discussed Standard Model measurements at the LHC, Emmanuel Tsesmelis who gave lectures on accelerator physics, André David who discussed detectors and the CMS experiment, and Chia-Ming Kuo who talked about the computing facilities used to analyze detector data.

Several Filipino physicists also lectured on various topics in theoretical and experimental particle and high-energy physics. Among them are Caesar Palisoc, Jose Magpantay, Jose Perico Esguerra, Eric Galapon, Eduardo Cuansing, Emmanuel Rodulfo, Zaldy Nawang, and Reinabelle Reyes. According to the CERN Philippines School website, it "aims to strengthen the Philippines' capability in experimental as well as theoretical high-energy physics by bringing together local, regional and international high-energy physics experts to share their expertise with undergraduate and graduate students in lectures and seminars."
