Two Dimensional Electron Systems

Here we model the specific heat capacity of a two dimensional electron system (2DES) such as those found in a GaAs/AlGaAs heterostructures. The behavior of the specific heat in the presence of an applied magnetic field is shown in the fractional quantum hall regime [1].

The Landau level broadening due to disorder in a 2DES is found to cause variations in its interlevel and intralevel excitations [2].

Quantum Wells

Bound states in quantum wells in the presence of an electric field are numerically obtained using the variational Monte Carlo method. The figure below shows that by varying the electric field there is an equal probability of finding the particle in the well and the barrier created by the field [3].
