    This is the official website of the Structure and Dynamics Group (SanD) of the National Institute of Physics at the University of the Philippines Diliman. SanD was established in 2003 and is one of the youngest of the six research laboratories of the NIP. The areas of specialization of SanD scientists include computational physics, condensed matter physics, statistical physics, and quantum information theory. A recurring theme of SanD's research is the interplay between the structure of a physical system and its dynamical behavior. SanD is also developing competency in high-performance computing on a custom-built computing cluster to take advantage of multi-core computers for intensive numerical calculations.

2nd QPCMP Workshop organized by IMSP and NSYSU @ UPLB

22 April 2016
SanD members attended the 2nd Workshop on Theories in Quantum Phenomena and Condensed Matter Physics at UP Los Baños last 18-19 April 2016. The workshop was organized by physicists from the UPLB Institute of Mathematical Sciences and Physics and the National Sun Yat-sen University Department of Physics.

SanD student is 2016 BPI-DOST Science Awardee

9 April 2016

SanD graduating student Rafael dela Rosa is one of the thirty BPI-DOST Science Awardees for 2016. For his BS thesis project Rafael quantified entanglement and coherence in a model of electron spins interacting with an environment for quantum computing applications. Some of his results have been published in the European Journal of Physics as part of a larger project describing effective thermodynamic models for entangled quantum systems.

SanD presents research at the 2016 PSROC Meeting

28 January 2016
SanD scientist Cristine Villagonzalo and graduate student Gene Itable attended the Annual Meeting of the Physical Society of the Republic of China (PSROC) at National Sun Yat-sen University (NSYSU), Kaohsiung, Taiwan last 25-27 January 2016. The conference covered topics ranging from quantum physics to astrophysics, and was highlighted by plenary sessions on advancements in magnetism, superconductivity, metamaterials and photonics.

Central Visayan Institute Foundation 2015

28 January 2016
In celebration of the International Year of Light, the members of SanD contributed to the future of bright and talented students from the Central Visayan Institute Foundation (CVIF) in Jagna, Bohol. The CVIF has served Jagna and its neighboring communities since 1925 and has championed innovative pedagogical techniques such as the Dynamic Learning Program.

SanD student earns bronze poster award at AQIS 2015

Graduate students Neris Ilano and Aura Villaruel attended the 15th Asian Quantum Information Science Conference (AQIS2015) at the Korea Institute for Advanced Study (KIAS) last 24-30 August 2015. This is the second AQIS Conference attended by SanD researchers.
