Entanglement, statistical mechanics, and parallel computing
Abstract
This talk has two parts. In the first, the concept of entanglement entropy in quantum information theory is presented in the context of principles of equilibrium statistical mechanics. The central object linking the two subjects is the reduced density operator. In the second part, a primer on two implementations of parallel computing in multisocket and multicore computers is given. Typical results of parallel programs using Message Passing Interface (MPI) and Open Multi-processing (OpenMP) are discussed to demonstrate the feasibility of parallel computing on desktop computers.
